Race takes place at the London eXcel center, parking is £25 per day so worth keeping in mind should you have the option of taking the train or cycling down. Swim was good, the Thames isn't the cleanest but it's quite cool swimming in the docks. T1 is a bit fo a long one, you have to take your wetsuit off before going inside the center and you're given a bag to put it in then you run up some stairs into T1. The bike course is where things fall apart: It's scenic in some aprts as you have great views of various London landmarks. However, it's a three lap course on pretty bad roads and in my case (4h18 finisher), it got very crowded and dangerous as the olympic distance athletes were on the bike course for the last lap. The roads were quite narrow so I spent a lot of time weaving through people and watching my back for faster athletes. All in all it was a stressful and not fun experience. Entry into T2 is easy enough as you head up a ramp into the eXcel and then straight out onto the run. The course is 4 laps out and back along the Thames. The heat was a killer but more importantly, it got extremely overcrowded. Many parts of the course were simple paths with T100 and Olympic distance athletes going both ways. As a stronger runner, I only had the first lap as an opportunity to get into my pace and be uninterrupted, from lap 2 onwards, it was chaos and required constant stopping and side-stepping to make any progress. The finish line arch is quite cool with the blue carpet. The post race experience leaves something to be desired as they were very strict about giving one of each item to everyone and refusing to let people take a second snack. Definitely NOT a race I would do again but the free photos included with registration are quite cool and I can see how it would please people who are there to simply take part in an iconic city.
