The race

Challenge Samarkand is a middle-distance race in the heart of the Silk Road. A flat swim, fast open-road bike and a run past UNESCO-listed monuments make it one of the most distinctive races on the Challenge calendar.

1.9 km single-loop swim in a calm inland reservoir on the edge of the city; typically warm and flat with little current.

Bike550 m (1,804 ft) elev.

90 km out-and-back on open, wide roads through the plains around Samarkand; mostly flat to gently rolling with exposed sections where wind is the main resistance.

Run80 m (262 ft) elev.

21.1 km flat run past the Registan and the historic Silk Road monuments in the city centre - dry heat and stunning scenery.
