Challenge Fortaleza is a middle-distance race on Brazil's north-east coast. Warm ocean water, a flat and fast bike course and a seafront run make it a PB course, provided you can handle the heat, humidity and coastal wind.
1.9 km single-loop ocean swim off Praia do Futuro in warm Atlantic water (typically 27-28°C), with a beach start and light swell.
90 km fast, flat coastal ride on wide avenues and the CE-040 highway; almost no climbing but strong, consistent trade winds make pacing the limiter.
21.1 km flat multi-loop run along the Beira Mar seafront promenade, hot and humid with plenty of crowd support and aid stations.
Actual monthly averages from the last 3 years (Open-Meteo). Real race day may vary.
Water temp uses athlete-reported values first, then official race data, then the marine archive (sea swims, measured at the nearest offshore point). Values tagged est. are modelled from recent air temperature for lakes and rivers, where no observational data exists.
